Mr. McFall was born and raised in Southern California, coming
from Temple City, California, and attended the San Gabriel School
District.
While attending college at the California
State Polytechnic University in Pomona, Bob first worked for
the City of Glendale from 1973 until 1975 as an Administrative
Intern in the Parks and Recreation Division. He obtained
his Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
After graduation, Bob briefly worked
for the Claremont Men’s
College and the City of Downey, returning to Glendale in 1977
as the City of Glendale’s Park Superintendent. He
continued in this position until 1986 when he became the Director
of Parks and Recreation. While in Parks and Recreation,
he was instrumental in founding the Pacific Southwest Maintenance
Management School, and taught at Glendale Community College.
Expressing an interest in moving
into general government, Bob was recruited for his current
position of Assistant City Manager in 1987. He serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the
City and oversees the general operations of the fifteen City
departments, with a specific emphasis on Human Resources, Finance
and Information Technology. Bob is involved in all aspects
of the City’s employee relations program, serves as the
Administrative Hearing Officer for personnel grievances and appeals,
and serves as a trainer in the Glendale University program. Additionally,
Bob supervises the City’s Internal Audit Unit, Community
Relations Program, local cable broadcast unit and the City’s
major capital improvement projects, and chairs the City’s
Ethics Committee. He coordinates the annual budget process
and facilitates special organizational studies, and is liaison
to other community and government agencies.
Bob serves on a variety of Community
Boards and is involved in a number of volunteer efforts, recently
including the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Glendale Educational
Foundation, PATH Homeless Center Coalition, Relay for Life,
the Glendale Character and Ethics committee, Glendale Human
Relations Coalition, the Armenian Genocide Memorial Planning
Committee, and the Unity Fest planning committee. He
serves as an instructor for Leadership Glendale, and earlier
in his career with the City, Bob was involved in the annual
Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, including driving the
Glendale rose float for eight years. He uses his photography
hobby to often serve as the “unofficial photographer” for
various community events.
